Suryaroot No-groni

Combine the complexity of a Negroni with anti-inflammatory powers of ginger and turmeric, for an inspiring drink crafted with easily accessible ingredients.

Ingredients:

  • Fresh ginger root (about 3 inches)
  • Fresh turmeric root (about 2 inches)
  • 1 large grapefruit
  • Cranberry juice - 1 oz (as an alternative to non-alcoholic bitter aperitif)
  • Pomegranate juice - 1 oz (as an alternative to non-alcoholic sweet vermouth)
  • Ice cubes
  • Orange peel, for garnish

Equipment:

  • Juicer

Instructions:

Prepare the Roots:

  1. Wash the ginger and turmeric roots. (no need to peel)

Juicing:

  1. Juice the ginger, turmeric roots and grapefruit (peeled). Aim for about 1/4 cup of ginger juice, 1/8 cup of turmeric juice, and 1 cup of grapfruit juice.

Mix the Drink:

  1. In a mixing glass, combine the ginger and turmeric juices with the grapefruit juice.
  2. Add 1 oz of cranberry juice for a tart, bitter edge.
  3. Add 3 oz of pomegranate juice to introduce a sweet, vermouth-like quality.
  4. Stir well to combine.

Serve:

  1. Fill a glass with ice cubes.
  2. Strain the drink mixture over the ice.
  3. Garnish with a twist of orange peel.
